One Dead In Single-Vehicle Crash In Canal Winchester

Posted: Updated:
CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio -

A 16-year-old boy was killed and two teenage girls were injured in a crash in Canal Winchester Friday morning.

At about 10:30 a.m., Pickerington police were called to the intersection of Wright Road NW and Schoolhouse Road NW on a report of a single vehicle that crashed into a tree.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jacob E. Jolly, 16, of Pickerington, was traveling westbound on Wright Road when he lost control of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier he was operating, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck a utility pole.

Jolly, and two passengers, were ejected from the vehicle. Jolly was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers, 15-year-old Renee N. Farmer, and Janay E. Farmer, 16, of Columbus, were transported to Grant Medical Center.

Renee is listed in critical condition, and Janay is in serious condition.

Jolly was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

OSHP said Friday that the two teenage passengers were Jolly's cousins.

Jolly attended Pickerington High School Central, where he would have been a junior in the fall.

Senior Iman Baker went to school with Jolly and sang with him in choir.

"He was funny. He was real outgoing. He was just a nice caring guy. Everyone just loved him," Baker said.

Principal Zack Howard described Jolly as an excellent student, and said Jolly was one of four sons, adding that one of his brothers had just graduated high school.

Howard also said school counselors will be available to help students on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at Pickerington High School Central.

Troopers said speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
