Worthington Councilman Accused of Inappropriately Touching Minor

Posted: Updated:
WORTHINGTON, Ohio -

A teen says a city councilman had sexual contact with her while she was an intern at his business. Worthington City Councilman Joe Davis has been charged with one count of gross sexual conduct after he allegedly touched a 17 year old inappropriately. Investigators say it was at Worthington Jewelers on High Street that city councilmen Joseph Davis crossed the line.

According to the complaint filed in Franklin County Municipal Court Tuesday, Davis who is a co-owner of the jewelry shop made a girl submit to sexual contact by force or threat of force. Police say the 17 year old intern went to school at Thomas Worthington High.

The complaint says Davis repeatedly lifted the girl's leg to his leg and when she resisted it says he pushed forward moving her leg onto his then rubbing from her knee to her genitalia three times. Worthington Police say the girl reported the incident to school officials about a month ago and that launched an investigation.

We called Joe Davis so he could share his side of the story and did not get a response. His employees sent NBC 4 an email saying Davis is on a leave of absence from Worthington Jewelers. He is due in court next week for a preliminary hearing on the charge that carries an 18 month jail sentence if he is found guilty.
