As the final horn sounded in Chicago, Ohio State celebrated another Big Ten Tournament Championship. It was the 4th Buckeye Big Ten title in the Thad Matta era. But their thoughts almost instantly turned to the NCAA Tournament and where they would be headed. A little more than an hour after the Buckeyes beat Wisconsin 50-43, they learned their NCAA fate.
Ohio State will be the #2 seed in the West Regional and face 15th seeded Iona Friday in Dayton in the NCAA Tournament 2nd round. The Buckeyes (26-7) are in a region with (1) Gonzaga, (3) New Mexico, (4) Kansas State and (5) Wisconsin. If the Bucks were to win Friday they would face the winner of the 2nd round game between 7th seeded Notre Dame and 10th seeded Iowa State.
Iona (20-13) won the MAAC Tournament championship and had non-conference wins earlier in the season against Georgia and Wake Forest. Iona also played in the tournament last year and also played in Dayton, suffering a 1st round loss to BYU.
OSU turned in a remarkable defensive performance in the Big Ten Tournament final in winning its 8th straight game. Deshaun Thomas and Aaron Craft were named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team, and Craft was named the tournament MVP.
