Columbus police detectives say that a teenager was assaulted and robbed by a group of five other teens while he waited for a ride at a local library.
According to police, the 17-year-old victim was waiting for a ride at the Franklinton branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library on West Town Street when a group of four males and a female entered the library at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Detectives say that the victim fled from the library following the attack and was chased by two of the suspects. The remaining three suspects allegedly rifled through the victim's backpack.
The suspects arrived at the library using a COTA bus, according to police. Detectives do not believe the five teens live in the area of the library.
According to police, the attack was sudden and unprovoked.
Video of the attack was captured by multiple security cameras.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Columbus police robbery squad at 614-645-4665 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
