A plan to charge some students at The Ohio State University hundreds of dollars for parking has been put on hold.
The new university parking contractor, CampusParc, sent an email to students living in Buckeye Village, saying that they would be charged $620 a year per car for a parking permit.
Students said they were upset, and many who live in the area have families and are on fixed incomes.
They argued that the contractor did not follow the right protocol.
"We're a residential neighborhood. We are not a parking lot, and to treat us like something that they can control and commoditize and charge for that is really upsetting," said Suzi Yee, an OSU student.
The university now said there will be no change to the current structure for parking fees for Buckeye Village residents, but the president of CampusParc said a new permit fee is needed to maintain the lot, and that other non-campus housing students already pay for similar permits.
