Crowds Flock To Cabela's Grand Opening

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Crowds flocked to the grand opening of Ohio's only Cabela's store Thursday morning.

The store opened at 11 a.m. in the Polaris area along Gemini Place.

The anticipation has been building for weeks, and the doors opened after a shot of an arrow.

By the afternoon, the store was packed and shoppers leaving the store said they were thrilled with what's inside. But it's what led up to the moment that is leaving a lasting impression.

"The wait has been exhausting and cold, sleeping in a tent and our heater ran out, surviving off donuts and Doritos," said Katie Kyle, who was first in line.

Katie, her friends Zach and Josh camped out for more than 12 hours, set on being the first customers inside.

By the time the doors opened, there was a crowd of more than 1,000 people waiting.

Austin Bowman was near the front of the line, with his sights set on something he's plenty familiar with.

"Just walk around and look at a bunch of camo," said Bowman.

There seemed to be other areas that would receive the most attention: several customers mentioned guns and ammunition.

"Guns, guns, guns, and ammo. That's what I think everybody's here for," said Dustin Rankin, a customer.

But before that could happen, there was a lot planned for the opening, including a few words from Ohio Gov. John Kasich, the CEO of Cabela's, and the host of TV's Archer's Choice.
