Riverside Drive Changes To Impact Old Dublin, Businesses

Posted: Updated:
DUBLIN, Ohio -

Old Dublin is about to change.

The zoning commission was set to hear plans that will create a new Dublin business district and connect it to the old Monday night.

Will 2-and 3-year-old girls learn how to be ballerinas at the Columbus DanceArts Academy on Riverside Drive, or will they eventually have to go somewhere else?

The owners of the academy are waiting to find out, and so far, haven't heard a word.

"We've been here for ten years and the landlord is not shared any information with us regarding the plans that are happening here in Dublin," said Sue Whitney, of Columbus DanceArts Academy.

The rerouting of Riverside Drive will take at least some if not all of the Bridge Point Shopping Center businesses.

Nearby, The Spa at River Ridge, which opened a few years ago, may be right in the path of the new road. But what may be in store for some businesses is finally a beginning for others.

The shops at River Ridge has been mostly empty shops since opening in 2008. Bruegger's Bagels at 4425 W. Dublin Granville Rd. is one of the few stores that has lasted.

"Any traffic coming further down from Old Dublin [is] going to help," said Mike Salcone, Bruegger's Bagels manager.

The shopping center will be more connected to historic Dublin in plans that include a pedestrian bridge over the river, a large roundabout at U.S. Route 33 and state Route 161, and the rerouting of Riverside Drive.

"Hopefully the timing will be such that if there is something that is going to happen if we have to move, that the timing will be good for all of us," Whitney said.

"Five years from now, [we'll be] still doing great. Hopefully, a busy Saturday night, a busy Friday night, busy all through the week," said Shelly Post, of The Pint Room.

The drawings and renderings of the changes will be made public next week at the state of the city address in Dublin.
