Columbus police have identified the skeletal remains found Saturday in Grandview Heights as those of a 64-year-old man who checked himself out of The Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center last May and hadn't been seen since.
Police said dental records confirm that the remains are that of Kenneth Whitfield, 64, of suburban Pittsburgh.
Whitfield's remains were found by a couple walking their dog near the rear of building in the 1000 block of Edgehill Road at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Whitfield's picture had been posted on the state's missing adult page since May 2012. The website said he had walked out of a local hospital and that he had health issues, but left without medication.
The missing person's case was being investigated by the Ohio State University Police Division.
An autopsy conducted Saturday morning confirmed that the skeletal remains were complete and gave no sign of injury.
Some tests on soft tissue have yet to be completed, but presently no cause of death can be determined, according to Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak.
Grandview Heights police issued a statement saying they do not believe foul play caused the death.
