Family And Friends Gather To Honor Shooting Victim, Ask For Tips

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Family and friends of a Columbus man who was shot and killed in his own home last Wednesday night gathered to honor his life Saturday.

Police said 39-year-old Larry A. Sigman II was shot multiple times in the abdomen at his home in the 2200 block of Eakin Road at about 11:16 p.m. Wednesday.

Larry's wife, Gaylene Sigman, told police she and her husband were watching a movie inside their southwest Columbus home when they heard two men knock on their door. Gaylene said the couple ignored the first knocks. The suspects knocked on the door a second time and Larry went to answer it. That's when Gaylene heard several gunshots.

"I do not want to go back to that house until they catch the people that done this to my husband. I am scared for my family and my kids and my grandchildren. We're staying at relatives and family," Gaylene Sigman said.

Many who attended the event to remember Larry Sigman at Jay's Sports Lounge on Saturday wore purple ribbons which symbolize the effort to stop gun violence. Gaylene said the impact on her two adult sons and two young grandchildren is devastating.

"The violence needs to stop. It's hard to have a loved one be killed. The gun violence and everything else, it needs to stop," Sigman said.

Friends said Larry was a wonderful man who always did anything he could to help anyone. Larry worked at his cousin's tire shop on Eakin Road which is located next to his home where he was shot.

Friends say they cannot understand why anyone would want to hurt Larry.

"He just genuinely liked to help people. He was the guy that a lot of people that go to that business. They wanted to deal with him because he wanted to go the extra mile," said friend Jay Searls.

Columbus police continue to investigate. Gaylene said she hopes anyone with information will come forward.

Larry's funeral is set for Thursday morning.
