GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio -
Police said the body of a missing man was found in a wooded area of Grandview Heights Saturday afternoon.
According to the Grandview Heights Police Department, skeletal remains were found by a couple walking their dog near the rear of building in the 1000 block of Edgehill Road at about 12:30 p.m.
Police said the body is badly decomposed and the exact cause of death has not been determined at this time.
Columbus police homicide detectives were called to help with the investigation, and officers told NBC4 that the victim was a man who was reported missing in the area some time ago.
He carried identification that was found in his clothing, but police are verifying his identity by dental comparisons before issuing the name of the person. The individual's family is also being notified.
Police said the body may have been unnoticed for a long time because it was in an area of trees, shrubs and grass that concealed it from view.
