A man facing rape charges is now accused of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder after he allegedly tried to solicit someone to kill the rape victim.
Investigators say Jamal Stafford, 23, attempted to orchestrate a killing of the unnamed 22-year-old victim while he was being held at the Franklin County Jail.
Charges indicate he paid for and provided instructions on how the murder should be carried out.
Columbus police credited an investigation by its special victims bureau, its narcotics unit and the sheriff's office special investigations unit with preventing Stafford from succeeding in his plans.
Stafford was originally arrested on the rape charges on December 28, 2012.
