Three
Vinton County siblings are possible fines and community service for unruly
behavior juvenile charges for truancy.
Siblings
Alexia and Kailee Moore and Jasmine Green have missed 13 days of school this
school year. Their mother, Katrina Moore says some of the missed school days
are because of doctor's appointments. She says she takes full responsibility
for their truancy.
The
single Vinton County mother of five knows in addition to her kids facing
possible fines and community service for unruly behavior juvenile charges, she
could go to jail if she doesn't make sure they go to West Elementary School every
day for the rest of the school year.
"On
March 1st we are going to start filing complaints for not sending
their children to school and as a result of that parents can be sent to
jail," said Vinton County Prosecutor Trecia Kimes-Brown. Kimes-Brown says
her predecessor originally handled this case.
"I'm
just going to make sure they go to school every day the rest of this year and
hope that they dismiss it," said Katrina Moore to NBC4's Denise Alex at her home in Ray, Ohio.
The
siblings' court-appointed attorney Jeffrey Griffith says he hopes the charges
will be dismissed before their April court date, "This is unusual for children
of this age to be charged; but I think the school was just frustrated and
needed to do something."
