Meijer To Close Newark Store In May

Posted: Updated:
NEWARK, Ohio -

Meijer plans to close its store on North 21st Street Newark on May 24, 2013, according to a post on the company's Facebook page.

In a response to several comments and questions from Facebook members, Meijer said:

"Thanks for sharing your thoughts on our plans to close our store in Newark, Ohio, effective May 24, 2013.

"We have a talented group of great team members at the Newark Meijer and we are currently working with them to identify opportunities at other Meijer stores in the area. While the decision to close this store was difficult, it supports our growth strategy which requires us to keep our competitive spirit strong by staying nimble and flexible in the marketplace. As we continuously look at where we operate, we need to ensure that our stores are exactly where and what our customers expect them to be."

The next-closest Meijer store to Newark, is a Meijer store on East Broad Street in Reynoldsburg.
