Cabela's Prepares For Grand Opening On March 7

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

When you walk into the store, you're transported outside. It's a retail store, but it's also an experience, and the workers at Cabela's are doing all they can to make your visit a memorable one before the grand opening on March 7.

The 80,000 square foot space boasts a mountain replica, a gun library, and rare and pricey pieces, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

Also featured in the store, located at 1650 Gemini Place, is an impressive 6,000-gallon aquarium stocked with local fish, a café with items like boar and bison on the menu.

One of the features of Cabela's is an indoor archery range.

Jim Daugherty, GM of the new store, said a lot of thought and planning went into making the store personal for Central Ohio.

"Product-wise, it's the fishing, which is huge in Central Ohio. Lake Erie right up the road, it's going to be big for us. All the hunting indigenous to the whitetail and the turkey will be big," Daugherty said.

Located almost directly between the existing stores in Dundee, Mich., and Wheeling W. Va., the hope of a Cabela's store in Columbus has been a long time coming.

"Everyone in Columbus that's an outdoor enthusiast has been to one of those two stores, so we have  a foundation here already and had never been," Daugherty said.

The company hired 260 employees for the store, and all of the workers are busy preparing for opening day. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m. on March 7.
