COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Central Ohio families are getting a treat at Easton Town Center.

Starting this summer, the shopping, entertainment and dining destination will have an entire area dedicated to family needs, with American Girl serving as the anchor store.

Fenlon Square will offer retail and dining options for families in one area, which also includes a new parking garage.

"Fenlon Square will offer a preeminent level of convenience, providing families the ability to park, shop and eat without having to push strollers though every corner of Easton's almost two million square feet of retail space," said Beau Arnason, Executive Vice President of Steiner + Associates.

Construction crews are working at high speed to ready Fenlon Square for opening this summer.

Lancaster resident Teresa Fuller treated her daughter Becca to a trip to Build-A-Bear Monday. The stuffed toy paradise will be among the first shops to open in the square.

"Well I think with it being local here in Columbus, families won't have to go away for more family-suited fun. So this way we can come on up to Easton and do everything we want to do without going too far from home," said Fuller.

The popular doll store, American Girl, is a welcomed sight for families that must travel to Chicago to get to the closest store to Columbus.

"We are very excited about American Girl. I have a 5-year-old who wants nothing more than American Girl dolls, so she's very excited," said mom of two girls, Ashley Sanders.

Other stores locating to Fenlon Square include, C Wonder, True Religion Jeans and The Children's Place. New dining options include The Rusty Bucket and Le Chocoholique.

Other stores and restaurants will relocate to the square from other parts of the two-million square foot town center.

Fenlon Square retailers join new shops like Kate Spade, which opened last week, in the latest effort to bring jobs and economic development to the northeast side of Columbus.

"I think anything that brings new jobs is great so hopefully it will carry over into more restaurants, and the area will just keep growing," said Suzy Christopher.

Easton is planning a 54-acre expansion called the Easton Gateway. It will sit on Morse Road and Interstate 270 just northeast of the current shopping center. The development brings bulk retailer Costco and Whole Foods to the northeast side of Columbus. The project is set to begin in 2014.
