Three people escaped a fire at their home in Canal Winchester Sunday afternoon, and three dogs were rescued from the blaze.
The fire started in the basement of the home on Busey Road at about 2 p.m.
All three people made it out of the home alive. Firefighters rescued the three dogs who had to be treated with oxygen, but are expected to be OK.
Fire destroyed all three levels of the home. Firefighters said it is unclear if the house can be salvaged.
"There ain't no way that no one can live in the house. I haven't been in, but there ain't no way no one can live in it right now," said homeowner Carroll Dixon.
Dixon, who has lived on Busey Road for more than 30 years, said he had just left his home when his daughter called to tell him it was on fire. Dixon's daughter and two others were inside the home at the time of the fire.
Violet Township Fire Chief John Eisel said the source of the fire is unknown but investigators are looking at a heater in the basement.
According to Eisel, the fire was very difficult to fight because the home was older and did not have modern day fire fail safes built in.
Dixon said that if he is able to, he would like to rebuild.
"It's where my wife passed away at and I'd like to [rebuild.] I don't know what the Lord has planned for me. So I just gotta go on with what everybody else can help me out," Dixon said.
