Interstate 71 north was closed between state Routes 95 and 97 in Morrow County due to several crashes, and Interstate 70 east was closed near Hebron because of an crash involving 16 vehicles Saturday afternoon.
In both cases, dense snow squalls created white-out driving conditions that led to collisions affecting dozens of vehicles.
In Licking County, eastbound I-70 was closed near Hebron because of a serious crash at about 4 p.m.
Four township rescue departments transported victims to area hospitals.
Authorities said a tractor-trailer headed east initiated the pile-up by changing lanes.
In all, 16 vehicles were involved. No one sustained severe injuries.
Earlier on I-71 in northern Morrow County, there were at least four separate crashes in a five-mile stretch of roadway north of S.R. 95.
A white-out condition is being blamed for those crashes by investigators from the highway patrol.
In Morrow County, the northbound lanes were closed for about 30 minutes and traffic remained slow for at least another hour.
Only one of the persons involved in Morrow County was hospitalized.
In both situations, authorities are working on reports to document the damage and injury done to the dozens of people involved.
