Columbus home Wednesday afternoon.
According to Columbus police, a 72-year-old man called 911 from the 4900
block of Kingpin Drive at about 2:26 p.m. Wednesday.
The man allegedly told dispatchers that he stabbed his wife and cut his own
throat, according to detectives.
Arriving officers and medic personnel found Margaret R. Mortensen, 74, with
multiple knife wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Leif H. Mortensen, 72, was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital,
in critical condition. His condition was later stabilized, according to police.
Neighbors told NBC4 that the couple had lived in the home for a few
years. They said the couple's son had arrived at the home after the incident to
speak with detectives.
Detectives said Leif Mortensen met officers outside the home holding
his neck with one hand, and a cell phone in the other.
