Westerville SD Considers Elementary School Realignment

Posted: Updated:
WESTERVILLE, Ohio -

The Westerville City School District plans to move forward with a plan to redistrict the elementary schools.

The Westerville school district is trying to determine how to deal with overcrowding in schools. One solution is to realign the elementary schools, which would mean some students would have to change schools in the fall.

On Monday night, about 50 parents sat in the cafeteria at Westerville South High School with statements prepared.

"We're here tonight because Westerville Policy 7110 says when we have a capacity issue that negatively affects our students, we have to consider the realignment of our school systems," said a Westerville parent.

Parents expressed their concerns with the district's plan to realign the elementary schools.

The district is leaning towards a neighborhood school concept that would keep children in their community.

No final decision has been made at this time and district officials say they hope to continue tweaking the plan and announce any changes before spring break begins on March 25.
