Columbus City Schools Transportation Department will host a Transportation Expo & Job Fair on April 30, at Northland High School from 4 to 8 p.m.
The District is looking to hire bus driver trainees and bus driver substitutes for the 2013-2014 school year. In addition to filling these positions the District is also looking to maintain a substitute pool of drivers as part of the hiring process to be used for full-time driver positions as they become available.
If you are safety-minded and interested in a career working with young people, then Columbus City Schools would like you to join the driving force in education and becoming a fully-qualified school bus driver. The transportation of students to and from school is an integral part of a sound educational program. Competent school bus drivers are needed to provide safe and efficient transportation for District students.

Bus Driver Trainee; Starting Wage: $11.00
At least 25 years of ageAt time of filing application; any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and five years of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.Possession of a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license.A good driving record—no more than 4 points in most recent two years as demonstrated by a State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle record abstract. Bus Driver Substitute; Starting Wage: $15.67
At least 25 years of age.Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and five years of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.Possession of a valid Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B with School Bus Passenger (SP) endorsement and air brake qualification.Possession of a valid certificate of completion for the Ohio Pre-Service Driver Training issued by the Ohio Department of Education for school bus drivers.A good driving record—no more than 4 points in most recent two years as demonstrated by a State of Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicle record abstract; and no instances of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the past five years. Free classroom and behind-the-wheel training will be provided; preparing candidates for the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) written and road examinations. Paid Training 25 hours per week guaranteedSummers off School bus drivers hired by the Columbus City Schools (CCS) Transportation Department must meet standards developed by CCS and state law. All potential employees are subject to a criminal history record check, work history/personal background check, and are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing before being hired. A driver must also pass an annual physical examination. Columbus City Schools will help provide training for obtaining a C.D.L. license and the required (12) hour bus driver certification course.
