Troopers allegedly seize marijuana and a handgun after helping a stranded motorist Sunday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers stopped to assist a disabled vehicle on Interstate 75, near milepost 16 at about 9:08 p.m. Sunday.

When troopers made contact with the driver, they noticed a handgun on the front passenger seat and detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

After a probable search, troopers allegedly found a pound of hydroponic marijuana worth about $4,500 and a loaded 9mm handgun.

The driver of the vehicle, Qualin L. Daniel, 23 of West Chester, was charged with fifth-degree felony possession of marijuana and third-degree felony possession of weapons under disability.

Daniel is incarcerated in the Hamilton County Justice Center and if convicted he could face up to six years in prison and $12,500 fine.
