COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Columbus police officers have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with a deadly shooting in southeast Columbus Monday evening.

Officers were called to the 3000 block of Elaine Place South on a report of a shooting at about 5:56 p.m., and found a man who had been shot and killed.

The victim was identified as 64-year-old Anthony Hines.

The 14-year-old suspect was apprehended sometime after the shooting, and charged with murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.

Court documents indicate detectives believe the teen shot and killed Hines with a handgun, stole his wallet, and then drove to another location. The teen allegedly threw the gun out of the window just miles away from the crime scene.

Juvenile court officials say the teen had previously been charged for stealing a car and failing to comply with officers on January 22. The teen was released and placed under an ankle bracelet monitoring system. The teen was reported missing from home on January 29 after he allegedly cut off the ankle bracelet.

According to detectives on scene, the teen and Hines were allegedly involved in an altercation in front of an apartment on Elaine Place South.

No other information has been released at this time.
