Opponents Say Wording Of Healthcare Amendment Could Put Programs At Risk

Supporters of the healthcare freedom amendment earned a victory Friday as they turned in enough signatures to have the issue appear on the November ballot for Ohio votes.

The proposed amendment would make Ohio exempt from the national healthcare overhaul that made health insurance mandatory.

But opponents of Issue 3 said the amendment will threaten other laws as well.

Innovation Ohio, a progressive think tank headquartered in Columbus, asked several law professors to take a closer look at the wording of the amendment.

The group said it is so sloppily and ambiguously worded that it would threaten a wide range of already-existing health programs.
