David Mazza is a meteorologist, co-anchor, and reporter for NBC4.
He came to NBC4 in October 2012. Before joining Storm Team 4, David worked all over Texas – from NBC affiliates in San Angelo in west Texas, San Antonio and Austin, to the CBS affiliate in Corpus Christi.
A native of Crystal Lake, IL, David attended Purdue University and earned his bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science.
David is a member of the American Meteorological Society and earned the AMS's prestigious designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (Seal #493).
He was named 2011's best meteorologist by the San Antonio Current, 2009's best meteorologist by San Antonio Magazine, and reader's choice meteorologist in 2007 by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
He said the most memorable weather story he has covered was Tropical Storm Hermine. But from a general standpoint, David said he will always remember the winter/ice storm that blew through South/Central Texas in February 2011. He said it was an interesting event to cover, and after the wintry stuff fell, it was great interacting with people and seeing them enjoy the rare occurrence.
If he weren't in the TV industry, David said he would be raising his son and golfing! But for work, he said he would enjoy working with a private weather company.
"I also think it would be fun to be a chef," he said.
David's first job was delivering newspapers twice a week – mainly to buy baseball cards and save money.
David and his wife Crystal have a 2½-year-old son, David III, and two dogs they rescued from shelters – Rocco and Miss Willow.
