Husband, father of Ohio mom and baby killed in Florida 'forgives' teens charged

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - Hundreds of people came out Saturday morning to remember the lives of a young mother and toddler killed by a speeding car earlier this week on Bayshore Boulevard.

Tampa police say Cameron Herrin was speeding in a Ford Mustang with Tristan Herrin in the passenger seat. Driving next to them in a Nissan was John Barrineau.

Witnesses say they were switching lanes and places.

At Knights Avenue, police say Herrin hit 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger of Jeromesville, Ohio as she was pushing her 21-month old daughter, Lillia Raubenolt, in a stroller.

Jessica died. Lillia was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and died one day later.

On Saturday, as hundreds gathered to remember their lives, David Raubenolt, Jessica’s husband and Lillia’s father, spoke to the crowd. WFLA respected his wishes to not be shown on camera.

“My wife would love to hug and kiss you all. As would I, but I don’t have the strength,” said Raubenolt.

He explained how his wife and daughter loved the outdoors, especially parks. He says he is choosing to remember how they spent their last day together - happy, laughing and soaking up the sunshine.

“This was the most beautiful way my wife and child could spend the last day on this planet,” he said.

David’s family told News Channel 8 they forgive the three men charged in connection with the crash and are praying for them.

The Raubenolt family and many members of the community agree that something needs to change to make sure this never happens again.

On Friday, City of Tampa crews changed the speed limit on Bayshore from 40 to 35 miles per hour, but many think more needs to happen.

“Our future belongs to our children. Let's give them the safest way to enjoy everything there is to enjoy,” said Raubenolt. “Let’s prevent this from happening again, please!”

News Channel 8 has learned Lillia Raubenolt was an organ donor and is helping save the lives of other children.
