AMBER Alert issued for baby girl; sex offender suspected in gas station attack, abduction

DANVILLE, VA (WNCN) - Police in Virginia have issued an Amber Alert for a 7-month-old baby who is believed to have been abducted by a sex offender.

Police say 51-year-old Carl Ray Kennedy assaulted the infant's mother with a knife, then took the baby during an incident at a Kwik Stop in Danville, Virginia, according to a WRIC TV report.

Authorities issued the Amber Alert just before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Police believe Kennedy could be headed to North Carolina.

Emma Grace Kennedy was last seen wearing a light blue onesie that has dots and a white rabbit on the left leg and matching headband.

She has a small scar on her left cheek.

Carl Ray Kennedy is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds.  

He has gray hair, green eyes and was last seen wearing a brown t-shirt, gray shorts, and black and white sketchers.  

Carl Ray Kennedy has a pierced left ear and numerous tattoos on both arms:

  • Skull tattoo with bandanna over mouth on his right forearm
  • Eye tattoo on the back of his right hand
  • Pit bull tattoo with "American bulldog" written under it on his upper right arm
  • Wizard tattoo on his left upper arm

Armed with a knife. Out of jail on a $250,000 bond for drug distribution.

Carl Ray Kennedy is a registered sex offender in North Carolina with a 2014 conviction for sexual battery. 

The Sex Offender Registry shows he lives in Asheboro, North Carolina.

He was last seen driving in Danville, Virginia near the North Carolina border in a Gold Suzuki  with North Carolina license tag number FAA-1873. It has a Johnny's Auto Sales emblem on the trunk.
