Sheriff's office identifies man shot and killed in deputy-involved shooting Saturday night

FRANKLIN CO., OH (WCMH) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in a shootout Saturday with law enforcement.

Sheriff Dallas Baldwin says the suspect is 55-year-old Darrell J. Bruffy of Orient, Ohio. 

The sheriff's office says Bruffy was shot and killed following a brief pursuit with a deputy that ended near Harrisburg Pike and Eakin Road. A Franklin County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot, and initially rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but later upgraded to stable after surgery at Grant Medical Center.

Bruffy has a criminal past in Franklin County, according to court records. 

Bruffy was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, assault and criminal trespass from an incident in March. He was set for a pretrial hearing on in municipal court on Tuesday.

A warrant was out for his arrest for violating a protection order, which happened in Columbus on May 6. He also was charged with violating a protection order again on April 6. 

Before these charges, his last incident listed in Franklin County courts was in 1994, when he pleaded no contest to obstructing official business.
