COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Are you for or against bringing streetcars to Columbus? The city asked to hear from residents -- either way.
Columbus City Council scheduled a public hearing for 5 p.m. Monday, and residents turned out to voice their opinions, NBC 4 reported.
The meeting was held on the second floor of City Hall in Council Chambers.
A large group of residents wearing stickers reading, "We Support Streetcars" turned out in favor of the proposal.
NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported that Short North business owners have mixed feelings about the possibility of streetcars.
Council is trying to decide whether it will approve a $2 million study to further the project -- which would connect downtown Columbus with The Ohio State University
City Councilmember Maryellen O'Shaughnessy prepared a briefing book on the proposal for council members. The book included a potential timeline for the project, funding scenario and more than 40 other streetcar projects that are in the works or have already begun operating in other cities, NBC 4's Mikaela Hunt reported.
The projected cost of bringing the streetcars to town is more than $100 million, Diedrich reported.
