Tacoma Newsome is a general assignment reporter for NBC 4.
Prior to her arrival in Columbus, the Fort Wayne, Ind., native worked in her hometown as a reporter at WPTA/WISE 33. She also taught undergraduate communication classes at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and currently teaches at Ivy Tech State College in Fort Wayne.
Tacoma received her Bachelor of Science degree in public affairs from Indiana University and is working on her thesis for a master's degree in communication from Purdue University.
She said that if she weren't in television that she would be teaching in a collegiate setting.
Tacoma made history in her first job. She was Burger King's first hostess. She said it was a short-lived attempt to make the fast-food establishment more like a restaurant.
A member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta, Tacoma, who lives in the Short North, has a 6-pound Yorkie named Dharma.
