Paul Stelzer joined NBC 4 as a general assignment news reporter in December 2006.
Stelzer, a native of Dayton, Ohio, is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
Before coming to NBC 4, Stelzer worked as a reporter and photographer for WNWO-TV, the NBC affiliate in Toledo, Ohio. Prior to that, Stelzer spent four years in Bismarck, North Dakota. Stelzer was the Sports Director at KXMB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Bismarck, before making the switch from sports to news. For the next two years, Stelzer served as a general assignment reporter and chief political reporter for KFYR-TV, the NBC affiliate in North Dakota’s Capital City. While reporting for KFYR, Stelzer won the Eric Sevareid award of merit for general reporting from the Northwest Broadcast News Association. Stelzer received the award in recognition of his work covering a summer hail storm that caused major problems in Bismarck. Stelzer’s first job in television news came when he worked as an assignment editor at WDTN-TV in his hometown of Dayton.
Stelzer says the most memorable story he has covered is the arrest, trial, and conviction of Father Gerald Robinson, a Roman Catholic priest convicted in May 2006 of the murder of Sister Margaret Ann Pahl, a Catholic nun. Father Robinson and Sister Pahl worked together at a Catholic hospital in Toledo. The murder took place in the hospital chapel on Easter Saturday 1980. It is thought to be the only case in history involving a Catholic priest convicted of murdering a Catholic nun.
