Omar Ruiz is excited to be covering the Ohio State Buckeyes as NBC 4's weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter.
Omar came to NBC 4 from KION/KCBA-TV in Monterey/Salinas/Santa Cruz, Calif. He also worked at WSTM-TV in Syracuse, N.Y.
Omar, a Sacramento, Calif., native, graduated from San Diego State University and then earned his master's degree at Syracuse University.
He and the NBC 4 Sports team received the awards for outstanding sports operation and best regularly scheduled sports in 2007 by the Ohio Associated Press.
He said if he were not in television that he would be a travel agent.
Omar said his most memorable experience as a journalist was working behind the scenes at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He worked for NBC at the gymnastics venue.
