A Marshall University graduate, Smalley last worked in Huntington, W.Va., where he was part of the state's best sportscasts from 2001-03.
Jerod was named the Best Sports Broadcaster by the Ohio Associated Press in 2007. He and the NBC 4 Sports team also received awards for outstanding sports operation and best regularly scheduled sports.
Jerod said that the most memorable story he covered was being in Atlanta for the 2002 men's basketball Final Four.
His first job was calling play-by-play for high school football.
Jerod is married and has a son, Brady. He enjoys working on his house, being with his family and working out.
