Amy Basista anchors the 5:30 evening newscast with Mike Jackson. At 11 p.m. you can see her out in the field reporting on breaking news or in the newsroom bringing you stories that affect your life. Amy, an Ohio native came to Columbus in 2003 as the weekend evening anchor before moving to Monday through Friday.
Prior to joining the NBC 4 news team, Amy was the main anchor at WTXL-TV Tallahassee, Florida for three years and reported daily on health stories. In between capital cities Amy served as a reporter for WJW-TV in Cleveland. Amy was also an anchor at WOHL-TV in Lima and a producer for WUPW-TV in Toledo.
Amy graduated with a degree in Communications from John Carroll University in Cleveland. Amy was honored when her work was published in a University Journalism Textbook. "I am so proud to say I graduated from JCU, not only because it’s an outstanding university, but the late NBC Political Analyst, Tim Russert was an alumnus. He was a brilliant man, who had such passion for politics. I had the privilege of interviewing him at Cleveland State University for the 2008 democratic debate. He could not have been a nicer man. I have a picture of the two of us at my desk. When we lost him, we lost a legend. When asked about John Carroll, I have and will always say Tim Russert went there."
Working in Columbus, in her home state, is a dream come true for Amy. In three short years, Amy has become a part of this community that she now calls home. Amy is involved in numerous local organizations including the American Heart Association and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
On her days off, Amy spends time with her family and friends. You can see her having a cup of coffee in Grandview or shopping in the Short North.
