Friday Freebies: Celebrate National Beer Day with specials from Columbus Ale Trail breweries

CENTRAL OHIO (WCMH) - Beer lovers, rejoice: Saturday is National Beer Day!

To celebrate, we’ve rounded up deals, discounts and events you won’t want to miss this weekend at some of the breweries on the Columbus Ale Trail, right here in central Ohio:

BrewDog DogTap

Head down to BrewDog in Canal Winchester on Saturday to take part in their beer school! Classes are at 3pm, 5:30pm and 8pm. Each class is just $30 per person and includes six BrewDog beers paired with tasty cheeses and a 2-hour long class where you can learn about how your favorite beers are made. BrewDog is donating 20% of proceeds from the school to the Scottish Ohio games.

Combustion Brewery & Taproom

Combustion Brewery & Taproom in Pickerington is celebrating National Beer Day all weekend long. On Friday night, they will have free live music with the Sandy Tar Brothers from 7 to 10pm and the Rockin’ Rolls Food Truck will be there from 4 to 9pm. On Saturday, the Challah Food Truck will be on site, and on Sunday, they will be serving Michaladas (Mexican cervesas made with beer, lime juice, assorted sauces, spices and peppers served in a chilled, salt-rimmed glass), as part of their Bloody Mary Bar from 11am to 2pm.

Elevator Brewing Co.

It’s a big weekend over at Elevator Brewing Co. in Columbus. At noon Saturday, homebrewers from all over the state will compete in the 2018 Homebrew Competition. Then at 2pm, they are tapping a pink plum Lambic ale for a diaper party for one of the brewers, and anyone who brings diapers in qualifies for beer specials.

Gordon Biersch

Gordon Biersch Columbus is going big this weekend. It’s your last chance to enjoy their limited time menu offering of Marzen Madness (featuring a dunkable trio, creamy bacon jalapeno dip, Creole Cajun wings, and Bacon & Bleu sliders), and it will be the last call for $5 half-liters of Marzen.

Hoof Hearted Brewing

Celebrate National Beer Day early Friday night (and every Friday night) at Hoof Hearted Brewing in Marengo! Each Friday, they offer the Friday Night Flights and Bites special from 3pm until sell out. The special features a new, weekly four-course tasting menu (prepared by chef Justing Wotring, formerly of The Refectory) paired with four 5-ounce pours for just $25.

Kindred Brewing

Not only is Kindred Brewing celebrating National Beer Day on Saturday, but they’re also celebrating their second anniversary! They will have yoga, beer pairings, rare beer releases and a bunch of food trucks on site, and they’re releasing two brand new beers: barrel-aged AU Golden Sour (a Belgian-style golden sour beer with notes of lemon zest, tropical fruit, and a tart dry finish) and English Style Old Ale (Kindred’s take on British ales, aged 15 months in red wine barrels with a fruity aroma and hints of dried fruits, hazelnut and toffee). The party starts with a $16 ticketed yoga class (that includes free beer!) at 9:45am. Brewery doors open for the rest of the party at 11am.

Loose Rail Brewing

Head over to Loose Rail Brewing in Canal Winchester on Saturday for their all-day happy hour! The special takes $1 off all beers from noon to 11pm. They will also be serving a special pineapple infusion of their Blast Pipe blonde ale and Sophie’s Gourmet Pierogis will be next to the brewery in case you get hungry.

Restoration Brew Worx

On Saturday, Delaware’s Restoration Brew Worx is offering $1 off flights of beer. They are also running a Burger with Growler fill deal: Customers can take $5 off their order if they bring in a growler or they can get a free glass growler with any growler fill. The special runs from 11am to 4pm.
