COLUMBUS, Ohio—A Southwest Airlines pilot was placed on paid leave after Port Columbus travelers thought he was drunk.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Thursday.

Columbus Airport Authority police filed a report Tuesday.

Travelers at Port Columbus International Airport said they thought the pilot was drunk.

The pilot wasn’t charged with any crime.

Witnesses did claim, though, he smelled strongly of alcohol.

Airport security was going to test the pilot for alcohol consumption, but the pilot said his union told him to go back to the hotel and spend the night.

Security officers said the pilot did not appear to be drunk but did have the smell of alcohol on him.

The pilot said he drank the night before at his hotel.

He was placed on paid administrative leave.
