WASHINGTON DC—President-elect Barack Obama has chosen an Ohio University photojournalism professor to be his official White House photographer. The university said in a statement on Monday that former Chicago Tribune photographer Pete Souza will be in charge of visually documenting Obama’s administration. Souza chronicled Obama’s first year in the Senate and traveled with the Democrat to seven countries, including Kenya. His latest book is “The Rise of Barack Obama,“ which was published last summer. He previously worked as a photographer for President Ronald Reagan. Souza says he couldn’t pass up the opportunity but hopes eventually to return to teaching.
